MUSIC: "CONSOLACIÓN" TRANSITION INTO “IN THE TIMESTORM” (INSTRUMENTAL)

NARRATION:
Hey there, listeners. I’m Dania Ramos, Timestorm series creator and writer. This is a bonus episode where we here at Cocotazo Media share some behind-the-scenes details about recording the music for Episode 7: Broken.

MUSIC: "CONSOLACIÓN" TRANSITION.

NARRATION:
In episode 7 of Timestorm, the Ventura twins travel to Ponce during the turn of the twentieth century to retrieve a broken promise. They meet future educator Lolita Tizol and world-famous violinist Claudio Brindis de Salas Garrido. From early on, we knew that violin would play an important part of this episode. Michael Aquino, our amazing sound designer, writes and performs the original music you usual hear on the show: the theme song—

—and underscoring.

MUSIC: “SO LONG, AND THANKS”

NARRATION:
But since we don’t have a violinist on our creative team, we invited Aurora Méndez, a talented local musician, to join us as a special guest. Aurora is a violinist and concertmaster and her credits include the Chilean National Youth Orchestra and Orchestra of the Americas.

We decided to feature the composition Consolación, or Consolation, written by Claudio Brindis de Salas Garrido, who was born in Havana, Cuba in 1852. The song, first published in 1875, is in the public domain. This means it can be freely recorded and used in a movie, or television show, or in a fun podcast about time-traveling twins.

SFX: WHOOSH, WHOOSH!

NARRATION:
In the episode, the song is played in three different situations, and Aurora played all three. It was fascinating to hear how she to performed each moment with honesty and accuracy. We’re about to play a clip of the song with Aurora performing as Young Lola who meets Brindis de Salas backstage after hearing him in concert at Teatro La Perla in 1897. The world-famous musician asks the seven-year-old girl for her best thirty seconds of violin and this is what she plays for him.

MUSIC: "CONSOLACIÓN” CLIP - YOUNG LOLA

NARRATION:
Now, we’ll hear Aurora play as a teenage Lola, ten years later. By nineteen-oh-seven, Lola is teaching violin lessons to children and she has dreams of becoming a career musician.

NARRATION:
And now, here’s a snippet of Aurora playing as Brindis de Salas performing on stage at Teatro La Perla.

MUSIC: "CONSOLACIÓN” CLIP - BRINDIS DE SALAS

NARRATION:
It’s amazing to think how all three of those clips were performed by Aurora. In addition to being a gifted musician, she also brought a lot knowledge about the history of classical music. For example, we talked about how musicians played differently according to the trends of their time and you can tell that Aurora is thinking about this as she brings to life these musical performances by Lolita Tizol and Brindis de Salas. In the episode, you get to hear snippets of Consolation, but we have a treat for you. We also recorded the entire song with a 3D microphone from 3Dio Sound. That means, if you listen with headphones and close your eyes, it’ll sound like you’re in the room with Aurora and her violin. And even if you don’t have headphones, what you’re about to hear is pretty extraordinary.

This is Aurora Méndez playing Consolación, composed by Claudio Brindis de Salas Garrido.
